TPN‘s Trifling Storyteller of the Week

Bethany Storro: Before and After

Bethany Storro gained the nation’s sympathy after news broke that an unknown African-American woman had splashed acid on her face and vanished. People across the country rallied to raise money for her and even Oprah wanted to give her some airtime. But as it turns out, Bethany’s story was just one….big….lie. How trifling is this? Let me count the ways.

  1. This woman doused her own face with acid–voluntarily.
  2. Yet again, an African American  is blamed for committing a crime that didn’t occur.
  3. Police resources were wasted looking for an attacker that didn’t exist.
  4. This false story prompted real copycat attacks.
  5. In television interviews, Bethany credited Jesus for getting her through the fictional  ordeal. ( I hope JC is there for Bethany now that she really needs him.)

I could go on and on, but I don’t want to give this media whore any more undeserved attention. Trifling, Bethany, just trifling.

  1. We can only wonder if she attended the same school with Crystal Gail Mangum…..

  2. Hopefully, Bethany will now be charged with filing a false police report, and have to pay restitution for all the time the police spent on this case, as well as all her medical bills, oh, and maybe have PERMANENT scars as a constant reminder of her absolute STUPIDITY!!

  3. Give her a break – she is undoubtedly suffering from severe depression or something else – these things are out of person’s control. Blaming a Black person was not so cool admittedly, but let’s not assume the poor woman was in control of her faculties.

  5. They ran the hell out of this story on Fox News, showing the “arttist’s rendition” of the police sketch an an almost continuous loop. Not so much on this follow-up story, though. Go figure!

  6. …by the way for every “Crystal Gail Mangum”, there are about a dozen stories like this.
