Lovehall and Mosley’s on again, off again love was documented in a 1997 movie.
(CHICAGO) Despite warnings from friends that they should run away from each other as fast as possible, Darius Lovehall and Nina Mosley have become engaged.
The couple received notoriety in 1997, when the movie “Love Jones” depicted the first year of their courtship. Those 12 months saw infidelities, breakups, and a shaky reunion, and friends say the last 11 years have seen more of the same antics.
“They don’t have a chance,” Lovehall’s best friend, Savon Garrison, told The Peoples News. “I tried to warn Darius, but the brother wouldn’t listen. He just said marrying her was urgent like a m—–f—-r. I threw up my hands.”
Lovehall, 33, a novelist and poet, proposed to Mosley, 38, a creative designer, at The Sanctuary, the jazz club where they first met. He popped the question from the stage.
“It was so romantic,” said Mosley, tearing up at the memory. “He was doing this spoken word poem and then in the middle of it, got down on one knee and asked for my hand.”
Others weren’t so moved by the proposal.
“He’s up there doing his thing then all of sudden asks Nina if a wedding ring could be the funk in her right thigh. I’m like ‘What the hell is he talking about?’” said Josie Nichols, Mosley’s best friend since college. “If some man said that to me I would show him the door.”
Mosley, however, accepted as the audience applauded. Nichols wasn’t surprised. She said Mosley has been desperate to marry, and despite her love for Lovehall, once came close with a good friend from college.
“He looked a lot like Taye Diggs too, but they could never get it together,” Nichols said. “I guess when it came down to it, for Nina, Darius was the best man.”
The wedding will take place next April at the Most Reverential House of Yes We Can A.M.E. Zion, the church Barack Obama started in June.
